About therapy
/ counselling
Life has its ups and downs. All of us can be
confronted with:
· Relationship difficulties
· Separation from, or the death, of a loved one
· Acute or chronic illness
· Problems at work
· Emotional and physical stress
· Depression and anxiety
· Feelings of hopelessness and fear about world events
Often we can get through these phases in life through our inner strength
and with the help and support of friends and family. However, sometimes
friends or family may be part of the problem. Or we just can't see a
light at the end of the tunnel. Old survival mechanisms just do not
work any more. Change seems inevitable but we don't know how. We can
feel frustrated and depressed. And unable to communicate clearly.
At times like this therapy can be useful.

"However high the mountain is, there is
always a way to the top." - African saying
How does therapy work?
A safe space
The therapist can provide a safe,
non-judgemental place to access and express emotion, to reflect, and to
clarify. She can also give the support you may need to (re)discover your
own capacities and internal strength.
Challenge
Having established a bond of trust and openness the therapist can
also challenge and confront where necessary.
Exploring your potential
"In the final analysis, we count for something
only because of the essential we embody, and if we do not embody that,
life is wasted." C.G.Jung
Crisis is not the only reason that people decide to enter therapy.
The decision can be based on the desire for self-knowledge and the
search for meaning. Every human being has an innate capacity and drive
to develop their potential. This drive can be supported or suppressed by
our surroundings. It is up to each of us to take responsibility for
ourselves and our place in the world.
The
process of therapy may involve any or all of the following:
* Evaluating your personal beliefs
* Separating yourself from those that no longer support your growth
* Dealing with self criticism
* Making new choices
* Developing compassion towards yourself and others
* Expanding your identity
* (Re)-discovering your dreams and vision
Frequency
A session normally lasts one hour. At the beginning on a weekly
basis. This may later change to once every two or three weeks. It is
also possible that there may be periods where more frequent appointments
are necessary. Client and therapist decide this together.
Making an appointment
Usually it is possible to make
an appointment at relatively short notice. The easiest way to make an
appointment is to call 020-6831892 preferably between 8.30a.m. and
9.15a.m. Monday till Friday. You can also
mail Zelda.
Changing or cancelling an appointment
If you cannot keep the
appointment then it can be changed or cancelled by voice-mail. However
this must be no less than two days in advance so that someone else can
take that time. In the case of later cancellation you will be charged
the full amount for the reserved time.
